5 TIPS to AMAZING Family Pictures
Design is in the details. Having an eye for it can be one thing but PLANNING ahead is always the key. Which is no different when it comes to family pictures. Unfortunately for some of us its not the funnest part LOL. I’ve learned a few things along the way while prepping for family pictures over the past 5 years. I wish I could say there is a magic formula but honestly it just takes time to plan it all out + lots of LUCK in finding the right pieces to make it FLOW. But with a few of my tips you will have more LUCK on your side which means you will get it right almost every single time. I hope 🙂
5 TIPS or TRICKS to amazing family photos
1- I start with a base of just a few NEUTRAL colors then add in my staples which typically involve Denim, or Blues, Blacks and Browns. For this year I am loving earthy neutrals…these were my base. I added in a few deeper shades like olive green, dark mustard with pink
2-Layer Layer Layer- Create more texture and depth for the photo by layering some of the outfits. For example, once you have your main key colors, you layer with a denim jacket or layer a lighter shirt under a dark sweater. Or a darker jacket over a lighter piece.
3-Accessorize…shoes and jewelry. For SHOES, Leather shoes or sandals for formal and semi-formal pictures. If you do tennis shoes with semi-formal, pick a dark shade. So if its black, have a couple of you wear black etc. But if you choose white make sure you have several in white. You can mix black leathers, and brown leathers…as well as dark tennis shoes like we did in our recent family photo see below. You just don’t want a white pair of tennis shoes with several other nice pairs of shoes…its going to look misplaced.
For JEWELRY– choose all gold or all silver if you can…I prefer the warmer/softer look of gold.
4-When the photographer is posing or positioning you for the picture you also want to make sure that you don’t have two of the same colors right next to each other…for example my son wearing a light gray shirt should not be placed next to my daughter wearing a similar shade outfit/dress. It all will blend best if you vary where you place those people based on the the color they are wearing.
5- HAVE FUN!! everyone just wants to get it over with so having a POSITIVE attitude during the short 1 1/2 hours is key.
