Basement Reno

Today I am sharing the details for my basement renovation……..part 1 started over 6 months ago. The plan, complete the family room/entertainment area, plus kitchen, exercise room, game area, and laundry room. We had this plan underway, with framing complete, the full electrical install complete, the full plumbing install complete, the full gas stove and washer/dryer hook up install, plus insulation, and sheetrock install complete. We had just gotten to the painting stage when the previously renovated basement bathroom flooded and ruined the half of our already finished basement!! Ugh!

Therefore, part 1 for the basement renovation took a complete HALT as we mitigated the flood damage .…see what happened via my instagram page here..

Below is a layout of our full basement renovation, by the time we are completely finished, we will have essentially renovated the whole basement. We are currently working on part 2, which includes the Bathroom, bedroom 1 and 2 as well as the hallway, landing and stairs. See image below….

basement renovation Part 2

We just finished the Bathroom remodel for the second time (I shared this process via my instagram page click here). I was able to add 4 new upgrades to this bathroom…I am so happy with the way it is all turning out. I am also working on the decor and styling of the bathroom and will share that in the coming weeks. The flooring for bedroom 1 and 2 was just installed last Friday. I will be sharing the reveal for this install this week plus sharing the process of picking the material from Engineered Floors and then having the floor installed by a local flooring company, luxe flooring. Stay tuned for that reveal via instagram as well here on my website. Trim work for those two bedrooms is now underway, and it should be ready to be painted later this week. I do share daily and weekly progress via my instagram page.

Bedroom 1 is the only room that was not ruined from the flood 6 months ago. (see image below) However a couple of weeks ago our main water valve into the house located behind the wall in the corner of bedroom 1. We found that the foundation had settled and the pipe was leaking very slowly. We only saw the damage once it made the baseboards swell and we could hear water sloshing under the wood floor. Ugh!!

As of this last week, in Bedroom 1, the old wood floor and old baseboards and some of the sheetrock, have now been ripped out. Preparations will begin to repair the sheetrock, and prep for new flooring and baseboards plus painting to be done in bedroom 1. Stay tuned for that.

Now that Part 2 is almost complete, we will soon begin moving Part 1 along, finish work will begin in a few weeks(baseboards and trim), painting, then the sand and polish of the cement floor. Once the floor is sanded and polished, we can begin design details for the exercise room and the kitchen. Order the appliances etc, confirm countertops, backsplash, lighting etc. I will be taking you through the full process of layout design plus decor for each of these spaces.

To follow along this current basement renovation, I have updates here, but mostly via my instagram page @tanahallows stay tuned…
