Bathroom Reveal

brought to you by build.com

We have been waiting for this moment for over 9 months now….kind of a long time for just a bathroom. Lots of hurdles but despite the challenges, wow it feels so good to have finished it. Thankful and grateful for the sponsors as well as my hubby for making it all happen. I love the opportunity of doing things ourselves however in some cases we do have limitations, so in those instances we hire that part out. Thank you so much to all of you that have been following along in this project, your support has meant a lot especially in helping me with a few of the decisions.

What do you think of the finished bathroom? sharing all the details below….

Plus planning the decor in the coming weeks…stay tuned for a second reveal with all the fun design touches. Still keeping it SIMPLE though as you know me 🙂

We were able to lay this awesome Maya White Cement tile floor from RIAD Tile….only laying the tile at night or on weekends after work. The tile was absolutely perfect but the floor underneath was uneven which caused several issues as we laid it. Honestly I’m surprised we survived that install. HAHA.. We were determined however as the money $$ we saved on labor was HUGE. To help with the uneven concrete below..we decided to lay down a hardy backer board. This made all the difference…

We also painted the walls, installed the baseboards along with laying the the tile in the shower….Ive learned that each project comes with its own set of challenges. Half the fun is in figuring out the best way to overcome those challenges.

Last we installed the frameless glass shower door from Build.com. I will share that process with you soon on my instagram stories. Also planning to review on instagram the nuts and bolts that went into completing this whole project.

Now for the things that we hired out, or splurged on in our budget. First we hired a plumber to install all plumbing valves and fixtures from PFISTER, as those items have to go in before painting and tile etc. I learned tha fort any sink faucet or shower faucet they have a specific valve that must go in first.

After trying to install the lights ourselves, we ran into an issue…once installed, one of the lights would not turn on and we had no clue why??? We called our friend who is an electrician and he helped us get it fixed. The reason it would not turn on was one of the wires was not connected correctly. He also pulled a wire through the ceiling to install a flat light that is similar to a can light but better. It really made a difference to have this extra light. Especially since we do not have a window at all in this bathroom. I think the lighting turned out amazing. The two sidelights are from Lights and Home…the Baird light…you can purchase it here….

The 2 Splurges for this project included the custom made vanity along with the custom made concrete countertop and trough sink. The hardware on the vanity is from TOP KNOBS….they have an amazing selection of hardware. These are the 4″ black europa pulls, I love this style, they also come in several different lengths and finishes. You can purchase them here….

Before this Vanity and sink could be installed..we had about 10 different steps to get to the final look. Our plumber installed the Sink and Shower Fixtures… the fixtures are from The Tenet line at Pfister…we swapped out the lever handles for their cross knobs on both the sink and shower handles. The cross handles helped achieve the look I was going for. The sink and shower valves had to be installed by the plumber before the sheet rock. This bathroom was an unfinished bathroom before this, but we already had the plumbing stubbed and sheetrock installed a long time ago. Long before I knew the design I wanted. It was easy to have a plumber install the valves where we needed them but then we had to patch the sheet rock in several places before tile and paint. We patched the sheet rock in about 5 different areas after the sink valve installation, electrical installation, shower valve installation and the mirror installation….for the mirror we added a reinforcement in between the studs at the top center of the wall where the the mirror would be hung. Just to make sure the heavy mirror would be secure. Patching the walls after all of this was easy, it just added a lot more delays to our project.

The semi custom glass shower door and 48″ Round Mirror are both from build.com.

Go back to my original mood board here…you can see we stayed pretty close to my initial vision. The custom vanity inspiration is almost exact. Ours was made out of maple, and I had them do two pull out drawers to make it easy to get to any items we have underneath. We did the sink in the center but I like the look of the inspiration so we kept it with the 4 doors. The cement trough sink was made in a custom width by my friend at White Stone Imports.

One last thing, we installed 2 KWIKSET Pismo door knobs for this bathroom, the main door and the linen closet door across from the shower. I will show you more details about the closet when I add in the decor. Here is an image of the door knobs. They are super fun and pretty.

GO here to see the before of this bathroom with cement and sheetrock…its crazy to look back!!
