modern maple nightstand DIY + 8 more options you can shop

I searched high and low to find the right nightstands for my master bedroom. They were either too short, too tall, not wide enough, or simply just too expensive. After searching for over a year, I lucked out in finding someone who agreed to custom make them for me. The price was right plus I loved the option of picking the style and the size.

When all was said and done the total cost for each nightstand ended up being about $250 x 2. However the person who made them was not up front in how experienced he was in making furniture. It actually took him twice as long as he anticipated because he really did not know what he was doing. I learned that to create an evenly square drawer that slides in and out easily, believe it or not is very difficult to do. Unless of course you are experienced and know what you are doing. I was really excited to get my nightstands, because as you can see from my images on the outset they look really good, but after I got them home, I noticed the drawers did not slide in and out easily. In fact one of the drawers barely even opens. Unfortunate for me he would not fix them. Apparently he underestimated his skill level, and did not want to have anything more to do with them. He offered to give me a refund but I did not want it to be a total loss for him. Since then, I have considered finding someone who can fix them but it will cost me more money to have them taken apart and adjusted. So now I have a beautiful nightstand, but stuck with drawers that won’t open and shut easily. With this project I learned a valuable lesson. I should have found someone more qualified to make them, because you do get what you pay for…even if it would have been a little more money, it would have saved me a lot of headache. But despite their imperfections I really do love them. Now to find someone who knows how to fix them.

If anyone is interested in giving these plans a go I will Share the plans below. I also link up to a similar nightstand to BUY, its a great price. But for me it would not have been the right size for what I needed. It’s about 4 inches shorter and not as wide. But it is absolutely gorgeous. Maybe it would work for you?? I’m sure the drawers will shut nicely. LOL One tip before you buy anything, make sure the dimensions of the item will fit in the spot you need. Nothing is worse than getting an item to find its too tall or too small. Then go through the headache of returning it.

Aslo sharing below 8 more nightstand options for you to shop. Let me know if you have any questions on the process of having one built or in finding the best one for your space. Send me a message here or via instagram. Thank you and have a wonderful week!
